da aviator aposta: Manchester United have agreed a £75m fee with Everton for striker Romelu Lukaku, according to BBC Sport.
What’s the word?
da bet vitoria: For some time it seemed as though Lukaku would be returning to his former club Chelsea, but now United are firmly in the driving seat.
BBC Sport announced the news first, but plenty of media outlets are now reporting that a deal has been struck.
Rumours swirled that Everton wanted a world record £100m for the Belgian striker, but if these latest reports are to be believed, they have accepted £75m.
It is still a staggering amount, but one that United can comfortably pay due to the financial clout behind them.
BBC Sport claim that Lukaku has been one of Jose Mourinho’s top targets this summer, despite the club’s apparent interest in Antoine Griezmann, and it is understood that the Red Devils have ended their pursuit of Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.
The publication adds that the potential arrival of Lukaku is completely separate to negotiations regarding a return to Everton for United captain Wayne Rooney.
The Premier League giants hope to have the deal for Lukaku done and dusted before the squad fly to the United States for their pre-season tour on Sunday.
Are United right to dump Morata for Lukaku?
While Lukaku has always been linked to United, this latest news has come as quite a surprise given that the capture of Morata seemed to be on the cards.
Spanish publication Marca claimed as recently as Wednesday that the forward’s switch to Old Trafford was imminent.
The situation has now taken a complete turn and it seems as though the 24-year-old will not be donning the red of Manchester this season.
So, have United made the right choice? Well, looking at statistics alone, Lukaku scored more goals than his fellow forward last season.
The Belgian netted 26 times in all competitions, while Morata found the back of the net on 20 occasions.
Lukaku still managed a better goal return in 39 games – one fewer than Morata – but the Spaniard only started 18 of his fixtures, while Everton’s man was in the starting lineup for all but one of this outings.
Morata has slightly more versatility as he can play on the left side of an attacking midfield, as well as up front.
Lukaku is the main focal point of attack and has plenty of Premier League experience, which suggests that he will slot into his new role at United quickly and effectively.
